Here are some free font practice sheets that I’ve created and would like to share with you. The more lettering I do, the more do I wish to experiment with mixing different fonts. So I created these sheets to practice some fonts that match well. At the moment they are available only as lowercase. For Trajan I also made a numer sheet. Just tell me how it works for you and if you’d like to have also upper case sheets. You may also make suggestions for further fonts as long as they are available freely.

Being happy does not mean that everything is perfect but that you’ve decided to look beyond the imperfections.
this is really a positive message, don’t you think? I can achieve happiness despite all my imperfections. Wow!
But this quote also raises some questions to me. I have the feeling that nowadays many people are striving for happiness. Why is that? Happiness wasn’t so much of a need in the past decades, was it? Maybe I was just to young to notice and adults have ever been struggeling for happiness, but my personal impression is that the search for happiness is a phenomenom of the present time. Does that mean we are all unhappy? Are we less happy than people were in the past? Or is it a matter of self-fulfillment? Why is it so difficult and how can we finally become happy? That’s probably the question most people like to have an answer. Let’s see what my mind is coming up with …

When you can bear your own silence you are free. (Mooji)
Last night I was unable to fall asleep. I lay in bed awake. My thoughts were spinning in my head, constantly moving, keeping me restless. Usually practicing yoga nidra at night helps me to calm down and fall asleep. But yesterday it didn’t. So I got up again, and sat down for some lettering. Somehow this quote pulled my attention.
Silence. When did you experience true silence lately? Being by yourself, no music, no tv, no phone (yes!) and no job to do. Just you and the silence. Well for me this was – exactly – yesterday night. And I didn’t manage to bear it. My mind took the opportunity of non-business and non-distraction to take control and bother me with all that thoughts. I really felt unfree and uneasy, because I wanted to sleep. I was tired, hardly able to keep my eyes open, yet not sleeping.

Do not expect to receive the love from someone else you do not give yourself.
I’ve been reading this quotes at least a dozen of times and I’m still wondering what it means exactly. There are two interpretations running in my mind. One is, unless you do love yourself you should not expect somebody else to love you. The other is, unless you give love to anybody else you should not expect to receive love. As I said, I’m still struggeling with the real meaning, although I have a preference for my first interpretation. However, both ideas are worthwile to give them a thought.

Happiness is not so much in having as in sharing. We make a living by what we get but we make a life by what we give.(Norman MacEwan)
This is one of my first waterbrush lettered quotes, if not the very first one, actually. It dates back to mid june, I can’t tell exactly. It’s so inspiring, I love that quote. There is so much truth in it. Aren’t we all craving for happiness? Aren’t we all accumulating possessions, yearning for more? However, anything new will make us happy just for a short time. The good feeling will vanish and leave an unsavory aftertaste. Having isn’t making us truely and sustainedly happy. Yet we’re not getting tired of trying.
Glück entsteht nicht so sehr dadurch etwas zu besitzen sondern dadurch etwas zu teilen. Wir existieren von dem was wir erhalten, aber wir leben von dem was wir geben.
